Sion Mills Speech and Language Class Home Learning News Letter

General Information

The staff in Sion Mills Speech and Language Class would like to say goodbye to the following students who are returning to their mainstream schools after successfully completing their Speech Therapy in Sion Mills Speech & Language Class. The pupils who are leaving include: Lucy, Maisie, Grace and William. We would like to wish them every success for the future.

Christmas Show

This year’s junior Christmas show is called “Something Special”. The show will be on two nights Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th December. The doors open at 6.30pm and all pupils are to participate in the show on both nights. Tickets for the show cost £3 and can be bought from the School Office. Please buy tickets to ensure you have a seat booked for both nights.

Mental Maths

Sion Mills Primary School is concentrating on developing Mental Maths throughout the school from Primary 1 to Primary 7. The Speech and Language Class would encourage parents to work on their child’s mental maths skills on a daily basis. Please practise the following mental maths with your child.

Primary 1 – Counting forwards and backwards within 10.

                 Recognise, read and write numbers within 5 then 10.

                 Explore the number that comes after – What number comes after 2?

Primary 2 – Counting in ones and twos forwards within 20.

                  Recognise, read and write numbers within 20

                 Explore the number that comes after – What number comes after 11?

Primary 3 – Counting in ones, twos, fives and tens within 100.

                   Recognise, read and write numbers within 50.

                   Explore the number that comes after within 50 – What number comes after 34?

                   Number Stories from 1-10

Primary 4 - Recognise, read and write numbers within 100 then 1000.

                 Know two, five and ten times tables.
